"For the Lord will not allow the rod of sinners to remain over the lot of the just, so that the just may not extend their hands toward iniquity. "
— Psalms 124:3, Catholic Public Domain Version
“Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:”
“Then they had swallowed us up alive, When their wrath was kindled against us: ”
“then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us;”
“they would have swallowed us alive, when their anger raged against us.”
“For the Lord will not leave the rod of sinners upon the lot of the just: that the just may not stretch forth their hands to iniquity.”
“They would have made a meal of us while still living, in the heat of their wrath against us:”
“Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:”
A Canticle in steps. Those who trust in the Lord will be like the mountain of Zion. He will not be disturbed for eternity, who dwells
in Jerusalem. Mountains surround it. And the Lord surrounds his people, from this time forward and even forever.
For the Lord will not allow the rod of sinners to remain over the lot of the just, so that the just may not extend their hands toward iniquity.
Do good, O Lord, to the good and to the upright of heart.
But those who turn away into obligation, the Lord will lead away with the workers of iniquity. Peace be upon Israel.
