"After a little while, those standing there came up to Peter and said,“You really are one of them too– even your accent gives you away!”"
— Matthew 26:73, NET Bible
“And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.”
“And after a little while they that stood by came and said to Peter, Of a truth thou also art one of them; for thy speech maketh thee known. ”
“After a little while those who stood by came and said to Peter, "Surely you are also one of them, for your speech makes you known."”
“And after a little while, they came that stood by and said to Peter: Surely thou also art one of them. For even thy speech doth discover thee.”
“And after a little time those who were near came and said to Peter, Truly you are one of them; because your talk is witness against you.”
“And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.”
But he denied it in front of them all:“I don’t know what you’re talking about!”
When he went out to the gateway, another slave girl saw him and said to the people there,“This man was with Jesus the Nazarene.”
He denied it again with an oath,“I do not know the man!”
After a little while, those standing there came up to Peter and said,“You really are one of them too– even your accent gives you away!”
At that he began to curse, and he swore with an oath,“I do not know the man!” At that moment a rooster crowed.
Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said:“Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.
