Matthew presents Jesus as the long-awaited Jewish Messiah — son of David, son of Abraham, fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets. Structured around five great teaching blocks including the Sermon on the Mount, it ends with the risen King commissioning his disciples to make disciples of all nations.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.”
