Mark is the shortest, fastest-paced Gospel — "immediately" is its favorite word. It portrays Jesus as the powerful, suffering Servant who acts, heals, casts out demons, and finally gives his life as a ransom for many. The story moves with urgency from Galilee to a cross outside Jerusalem.
Early tradition (Papias, c. AD 130) reports Mark wrote down Peter's preaching.
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”
“Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”
“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
