“Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:”
“Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first married and deceased, and having no seed left his wife unto his brother; ”
“Now there were with us seven brothers. The first married and died, and having no seed left his wife to his brother.”
“Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children he left his wife to his brother.”
“Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first having married a wife, died; and not having issue, left his wife to his brother.”
“Now there were among us seven brothers; and the first was married and at his death, having no seed, gave his wife to his brother;”
“Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:”
And hearing this, they wondered. And having left him behind, they went away.
In that day, the Sadducees, who say there is to be no resurrection, approached him. And they questioned him,
saying: “Teacher, Moses said: If anyone will have died, having no son, his brother shall marry his wife, and he shall raise up offspring to his brother.
Now there were seven brothers with us. And the first, having taken a wife, died. And having no offspring, he left his wife to his brother:
similarly with the second, and the third, even to the seventh.
And last of all, the woman also passed away.
In the resurrection, then, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.”
