"Then they asked him,“Why do the experts in the law say that Elijah must come first?”"
— Mark 9:11, NET Bible
“And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?”
“And they asked him, saying, How is it that the scribes say that Elijah must first come? ”
“They asked him, saying, "Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"”
“Who answering, said to then: Elias, when he shall come first, shall restore all things; and as it is written of the Son of man that he must suffer many things and be despised.”
“And they put a question to him, saying, Why do the scribes say that Elijah has to come first?”
“And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?”
Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more except Jesus.
As they were coming down from the mountain, he gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
They kept this statement to themselves, discussing what this rising from the dead meant.
Then they asked him,“Why do the experts in the law say that Elijah must come first?”
He said to them,“Elijah does indeed come first, and restores all things. And why is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be despised?
But I tell you that Elijah has certainly come, and they did to him whatever they wanted, just as it is written about him.”
