“And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?”
“And he said unto them, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a well, and will not straightway draw him up on a sabbath day? ”
“He answered them, "Which of you, if your son or an ox fell into a well, wouldn't immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?"”
“And answering them, he said: Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fall into a pit and will not immediately draw him out, on the sabbath day?”
“And he said to them, Which of you, whose ox or ass has got into a water-hole, will not straight away get him out on the Sabbath?”
“And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?”
There right in front of him was a man whose body was swollen with fluid.
So Jesus asked the experts in religious law and the Pharisees,“Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”
But they remained silent. So Jesus took hold of the man, healed him, and sent him away.
Then he said to them,“Which of you, if you have a son or an ox that has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull him out?”
But they could not reply to this.
On Seeking Seats of Honor Then when Jesus noticed how the guests chose the places of honor, he told them a parable. He said to them,
“When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, because a person more distinguished than you may have been invited by your host.
