"Will men be silent only for you? And when you have mocked others, will no one refute you? "
— Job 11:3, Catholic Public Domain Version
“Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?”
“Should thy boastings make men hold their peace? And when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed? ”
“Should your boastings make men hold their peace? When you mock, shall no man make you ashamed?”
“Should people remain silent at your idle talk, and should no one rebuke you when you mock?”
“Shall men hold their peace to thee only? and when thou hast mocked others, shall no man confute thee?”
“Are your words of pride to make men keep quiet? and are you to make sport, with no one to put you to shame?”
“Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?”
But Zophar the Naamathite, responding, said:
Will he who speaks much, not also listen? Or will a talkative man be justified?
Will men be silent only for you? And when you have mocked others, will no one refute you?
For you said: “My word is pure, and I am clean in your sight.”
Yet I wish that God would speak with you, and would open his lips to you,
so that he might reveal to you the secrets of wisdom, and how intricate his law is, and that you would understand how much less he requires of you than your iniquity deserves.
