“Raise a song, and bring hither the timbrel, The pleasant harp with the psaltery. Blow the trumpet at the new moon, At the full moon, on our feast-day. For it is a statute for Israel, An ordinance of the God of Jacob. He appointed it in Joseph for a testimony, When he went out over the land of Egypt, WhereI heard a language that I knew not. I removed his shoulder from the burden: His hands were freed from the basket. Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder; I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. [Selah Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wouldest hearken unto me! There shall no strange god be in thee; Neither shalt thou worship any foreign god. I am Jehovah thy God, Who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt: Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it. But my people hearkened not to my voice; And Israel would none of me. So I let them go after the stubbornness of their heart, That they might walk in their own counsels. Oh that my people would hearken unto me, That Israel would walk in my ways! I would soon subdue their enemies, And turn my hand against their adversaries. The haters of Jehovah should submit themselves unto him: But their time should endure for ever. Sound the ram’s horn on the day of the new moon, and on the day of the full moon when our festival begins. For observing the festival is a requirement for Israel; it is an ordinance given by the God of Jacob. He decreed it as a regulation in Joseph, when he attacked the land of Egypt. I heard a voice I did not recognize. It said:“I removed the burden from his shoulder; his hands were released from holding the basket. In your distress you called out and I rescued you. I answered you from a dark thundercloud. I tested you at the waters of Meribah.(Selah) I said,‘Listen, my people! I will warn you! O Israel, if only you would obey me! There must be no other god among you. You must not worship a foreign god. I am the LORD, your God, the one who brought you out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will fill it!’ But my people did not obey me; Israel did not submit to me. I gave them over to their stubborn desires; they did what seemed right to them. If only my people would obey me! If only Israel would keep my commands! Then I would quickly subdue their enemies, and attack their adversaries.” (May those who hate the LORD cower in fear before him! May they be permanently humiliated!) “I would feed Israel the best wheat, and would satisfy your appetite with honey from the rocky cliffs.””

“How long will you judge unjustly: and accept the persons of the wicked? Judge for the needy and fatherless: do justice to the humble and the poor. Rescue the poor; and deliver the needy out of the hand of the sinner. They have not known nor understood: they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth shall be moved. I have said: You are gods and all of you the sons of the most High. But you like men shall die: and shall fall like one of the princes. Arise, O God, judge thou the earth: for thou shalt inherit among all the nations. ”

Let the horn be sounded in the time of the new moon, at the full moon, on our holy feast-day: For this is a rule for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob. Give ear, O my people, and I will give you my word, O Israel, if you will only do as I say! There is to be no strange god among you; you are not to give worship to any other god. I am the Lord your God, who took you up from the land of Egypt: let your mouth be open wide, so that I may give you food. But my people did not give ear to my voice; Israel would have nothing to do with me. So I gave them up to the desires of their hearts; that they might go after their evil purposes. If only my people would give ear to me, walking in my ways! I would quickly overcome their haters: my hand would be turned against those who make war on them. The haters of the Lord would be broken, and their destruction would be eternal. I would give them the best grain for food; you would be full of honey from the rock.”
