King James Version
Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.
What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.
They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.
Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God.
Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?
When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.
In God will I praise his word: in the Lord will I praise his word.
In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.
Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee.
For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?
— Psalms 56:2-1953, King James Version
“Mine enemies would swallow me up all the day long; For they are many that fight proudly against me. What time I am afraid, I will put my trust in thee. In God (I will praise his word), In God have I put my trust, I will not be afraid; What can flesh do unto me? All the day long they wrest my words: All their thoughts are against me for evil. They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, They mark my steps, Even as they have waited for my soul. Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God. Thou numberest my wanderings: Put thou my tears into thy bottle; Are they not in thy book? Then shall mine enemies turn back in the day that I call: This I know, that God is for me. In God (I will praise his word), In Jehovah (I will praise his word), In God have I put my trust, I will not be afraid; What can man do unto me? Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render thank-offerings unto thee. For thou hast delivered my soul from death: Hast thou not delivered my feet from falling, That I may walk before God In the light of the living? ”
“My enemies want to swallow me up all day long, for they are many who fight proudly against me. When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. In God, I praise his word. In God, I put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? All day long they twist my words. All their thoughts are against me for evil. They conspire and lurk, watching my steps, they are eager to take my life. Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, God. You number my wanderings. You put my tears into your bottle. Aren't they in your book? Then my enemies shall turn back in the day that I call. I know this, that God is for me. In God, I will praise his word. In Yahweh, I will praise his word. I have put my trust in God. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? Your vows are on me, God. I will give thank offerings to you. For you have delivered my soul from death, and prevented my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living. For the Chief Musician. To the tune of "Do Not Destroy." A poem by David, when he fled from Saul, in the cave.”
“Those who anticipate my defeat attack me all day long. Indeed, many are fighting against me, O Exalted One. When I am afraid, I trust in you. In God– I boast in his promise– in God I trust, I am not afraid. What can mere men do to me? All day long they cause me trouble; they make a habit of plotting my demise. They stalk and lurk; they watch my every step, as they prepare to take my life. Because they are bent on violence, do not let them escape! In your anger bring down the nations, O God! You keep track of my misery. Put my tears in your leather container! Are they not recorded in your scroll? My enemies will turn back when I cry out to you for help; I know that God is on my side. In God– I boast in his promise– in the LORD– I boast in his promise– in God I trust, I am not afraid. What can mere men do to me? I am obligated to fulfill the vows I made to you, O God; I will give you the thank-offerings you deserve, when you deliver my life from death. You keep my feet from stumbling, so that I might serve God as I enjoy life.”
“Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me: for my soul trusteth in thee. And in the shadow of thy wings will I hope, until iniquity pass away. I will cry to God the most high; to God who hath done good to me. He hath sent from heaven and delivered me: he hath made them a reproach that trod upon me. God hath sent his mercy and his truth, And he hath delivered my soul from the midst of the young lions. I slept troubled. The sons of men, whose teeth are weapons and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens, and thy glory above all the earth. They prepared a snare for my feet; and they bowed down my soul. They dug a pit before my face, and they are fallen into it. My heart is ready, O God, my heart is ready: I will sing, and rehearse a psalm. Arise, O my glory, arise psaltery and harp: I will arise early. I will give praise to thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing a psalm to thee among the nations. For thy mercy is magnified even to the heavens: and thy truth unto the clouds. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth. ”
“My haters are ever ready to put an end to me; great numbers are lifting themselves up against me. In the time of my fear, I will have faith in you. In God will I give praise to his word; in God have I put my hope; I will have no fear of what flesh may do to me. Every day they make wrong use of my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil. They come together, they are waiting in secret places, they take note of my steps, they are waiting for my soul. By evil-doing they will not get free from punishment. In wrath, O God, let the peoples be made low. You have seen my wanderings; put the drops from my eyes into your bottle; are they not in your record? When I send up my cry to you, my haters will be turned back; I am certain of this, for God is with me. In God will I give praise to his word; in the Lord will I give praise to his word. In God have I put my hope, I will have no fear of what man may do to me. I keep the memory of my debt to you, O God; I will give you the offerings of praise. Because you have taken my soul from the power of death; and kept my feet from falling, so that I may be walking before God in the light of life.”
