Psalms 37:1-1953 kjv — Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be…

King James Version

1

Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

2

For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

3

Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

4

Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

5

Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

6

And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

7

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

8

Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

9

For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.

10

For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

11

But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

12

The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

13

The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.

14

The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.

15

Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.

16

A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.

17

For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lord upholdeth the righteous.

18

The Lord knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.

19

They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

20

But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

21

The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.

22

For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.

23

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

24

Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.

25

I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

26

He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.

27

Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.

28

For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

29

The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

30

The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.

31

The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

32

The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.

33

The Lord will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

34

Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.

35

I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.

36

Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.

37

Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.

38

But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.

39

But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble.

40

And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

“Don't fret because of evildoers, neither be envious against those who work unrighteousness. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither like the green herb. Trust in Yahweh, and do good. Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture. Also delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this: he will make your righteousness go forth as the light, and your justice as the noon day sun. Rest in Yahweh, and wait patiently for him. Don't fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who makes wicked plots happen. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath. Don't fret, it leads only to evildoing. For evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for Yahweh shall inherit the land. For yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more. Yes, though you look for his place, he isn't there. But the humble shall inherit the land, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes at him with his teeth. The Lord will laugh at him, for he sees that his day is coming. The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, to kill those who are upright in the way. Their sword shall enter into their own heart. Their bows shall be broken. Better is a little that the righteous has, than the abundance of many wicked. For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but Yahweh upholds the righteous. Yahweh knows the days of the perfect. Their inheritance shall be forever. They shall not be disappointed in the time of evil. In the days of famine they shall be satisfied. But the wicked shall perish. The enemies of Yahweh shall be like the beauty of the fields. They will vanish-- vanish like smoke. The wicked borrow, and don't pay back, but the righteous give generously. For such as are blessed by him shall inherit the land. Those who are cursed by him shall be cut off. A man's goings are established by Yahweh. He delights in his way. Though he stumble, he shall not fall, for Yahweh holds him up with his hand. I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread. All day long he deals graciously, and lends. His seed is blessed. Depart from evil, and do good. Live securely forever. For Yahweh loves justice, and doesn't forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off. The righteous shall inherit the land, and live in it forever. The mouth of the righteous talks of wisdom. His tongue speaks justice. The law of his God is in his heart. None of his steps shall slide. The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to kill him. Yahweh will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged. Wait for Yahweh, and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land. When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it. I have seen the wicked in great power, spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil. But he passed away, and behold, he was not. Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found. Mark the perfect man, and see the upright, for there is a future for the man of peace. As for transgressors, they shall be destroyed together. The future of the wicked shall be cut off. But the salvation of the righteous is from Yahweh. He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. Yahweh helps them, and rescues them. He rescues them from the wicked, and saves them, Because they have taken refuge in him. A Psalm by David, for a memorial.”

“By David. Do not fret when wicked men seem to succeed! Do not envy evildoers! For they will quickly dry up like grass, and wither away like plants. Trust in the LORD and do what is right! Settle in the land and maintain your integrity! Then you will take delight in the LORD, and he will answer your prayers. Commit your future to the LORD! Trust in him, and he will act on your behalf. He will vindicate you in broad daylight, and publicly defend your just cause. Wait patiently for the LORD! Wait confidently for him! Do not fret over the apparent success of a sinner, a man who carries out wicked schemes! Do not be angry and frustrated! Do not fret! That only leads to trouble! Wicked men will be wiped out, but those who rely on the LORD are the ones who will possess the land. Evil men will soon disappear; you will stare at the spot where they once were, but they will be gone. But the oppressed will possess the land and enjoy great prosperity. Evil men plot against the godly and viciously attack them. The Lord laughs in disgust at them, for he knows that their day is coming. Evil men draw their swords and prepare their bows, to bring down the oppressed and needy, and to slaughter those who are godly. Their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken. The little bit that a godly man owns is better than the wealth of many evil men, for evil men will lose their power, but the LORD sustains the godly. The LORD watches over the innocent day by day and they possess a permanent inheritance. They will not be ashamed when hard times come; when famine comes they will have enough to eat. But evil men will die; the LORD’s enemies will be incinerated– they will go up in smoke. Evil men borrow, but do not repay their debt, but the godly show compassion and are generous. Surely those favored by the LORD will possess the land, but those rejected by him will be wiped out. The LORD grants success to the one whose behavior he finds commendable. Even if he trips, he will not fall headlong, for the LORD holds his hand. I was once young, now I am old. I have never seen a godly man abandoned, or his children forced to search for food. All day long he shows compassion and lends to others, and his children are blessed. Turn away from evil! Do what is right! Then you will enjoy lasting security. For the LORD promotes justice, and never abandons his faithful followers. They are permanently secure, but the children of evil men are wiped out. The godly will possess the land and will dwell in it permanently. The godly speak wise words and promote justice. The law of their God controls their thinking; their feet do not slip. Evil men set an ambush for the godly and try to kill them. But the LORD does not surrender the godly, or allow them to be condemned in a court of law. Rely on the LORD! Obey his commands! Then he will permit you to possess the land; you will see the demise of evil men. I have seen ruthless evil men growing in influence, like a green tree grows in its native soil. But then one passes by, and suddenly they have disappeared! I looked for them, but they could not be found. Take note of the one who has integrity! Observe the upright! For the one who promotes peace has a future. Sinful rebels are totally destroyed; evil men have no future. But the LORD delivers the godly; he protects them in times of trouble. The LORD helps them and rescues them; he rescues them from evil men and delivers them, for they seek his protection.”

“A psalm for David, for a remembrance of the sabbath. Rebuke me not, O Lord, in thy indignation; nor chastise me in thy wrath. For thy arrows are fastened in me: and thy hand hath been strong upon me. There is no health in my flesh, because of thy wrath: there is no peace for my bones, because of my sins. For my iniquities are gone over my head: and as a heavy burden are become heavy upon me. My sores are putrefied and corrupted, because of my foolishness. I am become miserable, and am bowed down even to the end: I walked sorrowful all the day long. For my loins are filled with illusions; and there is no health in my flesh. I am afflicted and humbled exceedingly: I roared with the groaning of my heart. Lord, all my desire is before thee, and my groaning is not hidden from thee. My heart is troubled, my strength hath left me, and the light of my eyes itself is not with me. My friends and my neighbours have drawn near, and stood against me. And they that were near me stood afar off: And they that sought my soul used violence. And they that sought evils to me spoke vain things, and studied deceits all the day long. But I, as a deaf man, heard not: and as a dumb man not opening his mouth. And I became as a man that heareth not: and that hath no reproofs in his mouth. For in thee, O Lord, have I hoped: thou wilt hear me, O Lord my God. For I said: Lest at any time my enemies rejoice over me: and whilst my feet are moved, they speak great things against me. For I am ready for scourges: and my sorrow is continually before me. For I will declare my iniquity: and I will think for my sin. But my enemies live, and are stronger than I: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied. They that render evil for good, have detracted me, because I followed goodness. For sake me not, O Lord my God: do not thou depart from me. Attend unto my help, O Lord, the God of my salvation. ”

“ Do not be angry because of the wrongdoers, or have envy of the workers of evil. For they will quickly be cut down like grass, and become dry like the green plants. Have faith in the Lord, and do good; be at rest in the land, and go after righteousness. So will your delight be in the Lord, and he will give you your heart's desires. Put your life in the hands of the Lord; have faith in him and he will do it. And he will make your righteousness be seen like the light, and your cause like the shining of the sun. Take your rest in the Lord, waiting quietly for him; do not be angry because of the man who does well in his evil ways, and gives effect to his bad designs. Put an end to your wrath and be no longer bitter; do not give way to angry feeling which is a cause of sin. For the evil-doers will be cut off: but those who have faith in the Lord will have the earth for their heritage. For in a short time the evil-doer will be gone: you will go searching for his place, and it will not be there. But the gentle will have the earth for their heritage; they will take their delight in peace without measure. The sinner has evil designs against the upright, lifting up the voice of wrath against him. He will be laughed at by the Lord, who sees that his day is coming. The evil-doers have taken out their swords, their bows are bent; for crushing the poor, and to put to death those who are upright in their ways. But their swords will be turned into their hearts, and their bows will be broken. The little which the good man has is better than the wealth of evil-doers. For the arms of the evil-doers will be broken: but the Lord is the support of the good. The days of the upright are numbered by the Lord, and their heritage will be for ever. They will not be shamed in the evil time, and in the days when all are in need of food they will have enough. But the wrongdoers will come to destruction, and the haters of the Lord will be like the fat of lambs, they will be burned up; they will go up in smoke, and never again be seen. The sinner takes money and does not give it back; but the upright man has mercy, and gives to others. Those who have his blessing will have the earth for their heritage; but those who are cursed by him will be cut off. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and he takes delight in his way. Even if he has a fall he will not be without help: for the hand of the Lord is supporting him. I have been young, and now am old, but I have not seen the good man without help, or his children looking for bread. All the day he is ready to have mercy and to give; his children are a blessing. Be turned from evil, and do good; and your place will be for ever. For the Lord is a lover of righteousness, and takes care of his saints; they will be kept safe for ever; but the seed of the evil-doers will be cut off. The upright will have the earth for their heritage, and will go on living there for ever. The mouth of the good man says words of wisdom; the talk of his tongue is of righteousness. The law of his God is in his heart; he will never make a false step. The sinners are watching the upright man, desiring to put him to death. The Lord will not give him into their hands, or be against him when he is judged. Be waiting for the Lord, and keep his way; and you will be lifted up, and have the land for your heritage: when the evil-doers are cut off, you will see it. I have seen the evil-doer in great power, covering the earth like a great tree. But he came to an end, and there was no sign of him; I made a search for him and he was not there. Give attention to the good man, and take note of the upright; because the end of that man is peace. But as for the sinners, they will be cut off together; the end of the wrongdoers is destruction. But the Lord is the saviour of the upright: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord will be their help, and keep them safe: he will take them out of the hands of the evil-doers, and be their saviour, because they had faith in him.”

I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found. Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off. But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him. ”

How can I memorize Psalms 37:1-1953?
Psalms 37:1-1953 reads (KJV): “Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth. The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming. The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation. Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken. A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked. For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lord upholdeth the righteous. The Lord knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever. They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away. The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth. For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand. I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed. Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off. The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever. The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment. The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide. The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him. The Lord will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged. Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it. ” Read it aloud, break it into short phrases, repeat each phrase three times before adding the next, then put the phrases together. Reading it in multiple translations (above) often helps the meaning settle.
