King James Version
The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows.
The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.
Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion.
Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up:
Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand; nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.
Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the Lord be upon you: we bless you in the name of the Lord.
— Psalms 129:3-1953, King James Version
“The plowers plowed upon my back; They made long their furrows. Jehovah is righteous: He hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked. Let them be put to shame and turned backward, All they that hate Zion. Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, Which withereth before it groweth up; Wherewith the reaper filleth not his hand, Nor he that bindeth sheaves, his bosom: Neither do they that go by say, The blessing of Jehovah be upon you; We bless you in the name of Jehovah. ”
“The plowers plowed on my back. They made their furrows long. Yahweh is righteous. He has cut apart the cords of the wicked. Let them be disappointed and turned backward, all those who hate Zion. Let them be as the grass on the housetops, which withers before it grows up; with which the reaper doesn't fill his hand, nor he who binds sheaves, his bosom. Neither do those who go by say, "The blessing of Yahweh be on you. We bless you in the name of Yahweh." A Song of Ascents.”
“The plowers plowed my back; they made their furrows long. The LORD is just; he cut the ropes of the wicked.” May all who hate Zion be humiliated and turned back! May they be like the grass on the rooftops which withers before one can even pull it up, which cannot fill the reaper’s hand, or the lap of the one who gathers the grain! Those who pass by will not say,“May you experience the LORD’s blessing! We pronounce a blessing on you in the name of the LORD.”
“If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities: Lord, who shall stand it. For with thee there is merciful forgiveness: and by reason of thy law, I have waited for thee, O Lord. My soul hath relied on his word: my soul hath hoped in the Lord. From the morning watch even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord. Because with the Lord there is mercy: and with him plentiful redemption. And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities. ”
“The ploughmen were ploughing on my back; long were the wounds they made. The Lord is true: the cords of the evil-doers are broken in two. Let all the haters of Zion be shamed and turned back. Let them be like the grass on the house-tops, which is dry before it comes to full growth. He who gets in the grain has no use for it; and they do not make bands of it for the grain-stems. And those who go by do not say, The blessing of the Lord be on you; we give you blessing in the name of the Lord.”
“The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows. The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked. Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion. Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up: Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand; nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom. Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the Lord be upon you: we bless you in the name of the Lord. ”
Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say:
Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.
