“Seek ye Jehovah and his strength; Seek his face evermore. Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, His wonders, and the judgments of his mouth, O ye seed of Abraham his servant, Ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones. He is Jehovah our God: His judgments are in all the earth. He hath remembered his covenant for ever, The word which he commanded to a thousand generations, The covenantwhich he made with Abraham, And his oath unto Isaac, And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a statute, To Israel for an everlasting covenant, Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, The lot of your inheritance; When they were but a few men in number, Yea, very few, and sojourners in it. And they went about from nation to nation, From one kingdom to another people. He suffered no man to do them wrong; Yea, he reproved kings for their sakes, Saying, Touch not mine anointed ones, And do my prophets no harm. And he called for a famine upon the land; He brake the whole staff of bread. He sent a man before them; Joseph was sold for a servant: His feet they hurt with fetters: He was laid inchains ofiron, Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of Jehovah tried him. The king sent and loosed him; Even the ruler of peoples, and let him go free. He made him lord of his house, And ruler of all his substance; To bind his princes at his pleasure, And teach his elders wisdom. Israel also came into Egypt; And Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. And he increased his people greatly, And made them stronger than their adversaries. He turned their heart to hate his people, To deal subtly with his servants. He sent Moses his servant, AndAaron whom he had chosen. They set among them his signs, And wonders in the land of Ham. He sent darkness, and made it dark; And they rebelled not against his words. He turned their waters into blood, And slew their fish. Their land swarmed with frogs In the chambers of their kings. He spake, and there came swarms of flies, And lice in all their borders. He gave them hail for rain, Andflaming fire in their land. He smote their vines also and their fig-trees, And brake the trees of their borders. He spake, and the locust came, And the grasshopper, and that without number, And did eat up every herb in their land, And did eat up the fruit of their ground. He smote also all the first-born in their land, The chief of all their strength. And he brought them forth with silver and gold; And there was not one feeble person among his tribes. Egypt was glad when they departed; For the fear of them had fallen upon them. He spread a cloud for a covering, And fire to give light in the night. They asked, and he brought quails, And satisfied them with the bread of heaven. He opened the rock, and waters gushed out; They ran in the dry places like a river. For he remembered his holy word, AndAbraham his servant. And he brought forth his people with joy, Andhis chosen with singing. And he gave them the lands of the nations; And they took the labor of the peoples in possession: That they might keep his statutes, And observe his laws. Praise ye Jehovah. ”

“Seek the LORD and the strength he gives! Seek his presence continually! Recall the miraculous deeds he performed, his mighty acts and the judgments he decreed, O children of Abraham, God’s servant, you descendants of Jacob, God’s chosen ones! He is the LORD our God; he carries out judgment throughout the earth. He always remembers his covenantal decree, the promise he made to a thousand generations– the promise he made to Abraham, the promise he made by oath to Isaac! He gave it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as a lasting promise, saying,“To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion of your inheritance.” When they were few in number, just a very few, and resident foreigners within it, they wandered from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another. He let no one oppress them; he disciplined kings for their sake, saying,“Don’t touch my chosen ones! Don’t harm my prophets!” He called down a famine upon the earth; he cut off all the food supply. He sent a man ahead of them– Joseph was sold as a servant. The shackles hurt his feet; his neck was placed in an iron collar, until the time when his prediction came true. The LORD’s word proved him right. The king authorized his release; the ruler of nations set him free. He put him in charge of his palace, and made him manager of all his property, giving him authority to imprison his officials and to teach his advisers. Israel moved to Egypt; Jacob lived for a time in the land of Ham. The LORD made his people very fruitful, and made them more numerous than their enemies. He caused them to hate his people, and to mistreat his servants. He sent his servant Moses, and Aaron, whom he had chosen. They executed his miraculous signs among them, and his amazing deeds in the land of Ham. He made it dark; they did not disobey his orders. He turned their water into blood, and killed their fish. Their land was overrun by frogs, which even got into the rooms of their kings. He ordered flies to come; gnats invaded their whole territory. He sent hail along with the rain; there was lightning in their land. He destroyed their vines and fig trees, and broke the trees throughout their territory. He ordered locusts to come, innumerable grasshoppers. They ate all the vegetation in their land, and devoured the crops of their fields. He struck down all the firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of their reproductive power. He brought his people out enriched with silver and gold; none of his tribes stumbled. Egypt was happy when they left, for they were afraid of them. He spread out a cloud for a cover, and provided a fire to light up the night. They asked for food, and he sent quails; he satisfied them with food from the sky. He opened up a rock and water flowed out; a river ran through dry regions. Yes, he remembered the sacred promise he made to Abraham his servant. When he led his people out, they rejoiced; his chosen ones shouted with joy. He handed the territory of nations over to them, and they took possession of what other peoples had produced, so that they might keep his commands and obey his laws. Praise the LORD!”

That we may see the good of thy chosen, that we may rejoice in the joy of thy nation: that thou mayst be praised with thy inheritance. And he saved them from the hand of them that hated them: and he redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. And the water covered them that afflicted them: there was not one of them left. And they coveted their desire in the desert: and they tempted God in the place without water. And he gave them their request: and sent fulness into their souls. And they provoked Moses in the camp, Aaron the holy one of the Lord. The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan: and covered the congregation of Abiron. And a fire was kindled in their congregation: the flame burned the wicked. They made also a calf in Horeb: and they adored the graven thing. And they changed their glory into the likeness of a calf that eateth grass. They forgot God, who saved them, who had done great things in Egypt, Wondrous works in the land of Cham: terrible things in the Red Sea. And he said that he would destroy them: had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach: To turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them. And they set at nought the desirable land. They believed not his word, And they murmured in their tents: they hearkened not to the voice of the Lord. And he lifted up his hand over them: to overthrow them in the desert; And to cast down their seed among the nations, and to scatter them in the countries. They also were initiated to Beelphegor: and ate the sacrifices of the dead. And they provoked him with their inventions: and destruction was multiplied among them. Then Phinees stood up, and pacified him: and the slaughter ceased. And it was reputed to him unto justice, to generation and generation for evermore. They provoked him also at the waters of contradiction: and Moses was afflicted for their sakes: Because they exasperated his spirit. And he distinguished with his lips. They did not destroy the nations of which the Lord spoke unto them. And they were mingled among the heathens, and learned their works: And served their idols, and it became a stumblingblock to them. And they sacrificed their sons, and their daughters to devils. And they shed innocent blood: the blood of their sons and of their daughters which they sacrificed to the idols of Chanaan. And the land was polluted with blood, And was defiled with their works: and they went aside after their own inventions. And the Lord was exceedingly angry with his people: and he abhorred his inheritance. And he delivered them into the hands of the nations: and they that hated them had dominion over them. And their enemies afflicted them: and they were humbled under their hands: Many times did he deliver them. But they provoked him with their counsel: and they were brought low by their iniquities. And he saw when they were in tribulation: and he heard their prayer. And he was mindful of his covenant: and repented according to the multitude of his mercies. And he gave them unto mercies, in the sight of all those that had made them captives. Save us, O Lord, our God: and gather us from among the nations: That we may give thanks to thy holy name, and may glory in thy praise. Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say: So be it, so be it. ”

At his word their waters were turned to blood, and he sent death on all their fish. Their land was full of frogs, even in the rooms of the king. He gave the word, and there came the dog-fly, and insects over all the land. He gave them ice for rain, and flaming fire in their land. He gave their vines and their fig-trees to destruction, and the trees of their land were broken down. At his word the locusts came, and young locusts more than might be numbered, And put an end to all the plants of their land, taking all the fruit of the earth for food. He put to death the first child of every family in the land, the first-fruits of their strength. He took his people out with silver and gold: there was not one feeble person among them. Egypt was glad when they went; for the fear of them had come down on them. A cloud was stretched over them for a cover; and he sent fire to give light in the night. At the people's request he sent birds, and gave them the bread of heaven for food. His hand made the rock open, and the waters came streaming out; they went down through the dry places like a river.
