King James Version
Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?
The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.
And thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.
— Proverbs 27:23-1953, King James Version
“ Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, And look well to thy herds: For riches are not for ever; And doth the crown endure unto all generations? The hay is carried, and the tender grass showeth itself, And the herbs of the mountains are gathered in. The lambs are for thy clothing, And the goats are the price of the field; Andthere will begoats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, And maintenance for thy maidens. ”
“Know well the state of your flocks, and pay attention to your herds: for riches are not forever, nor does even the crown endure to all generations. The hay is removed, and the new growth appears, the grasses of the hills are gathered in. The lambs are for your clothing, and the goats are the price of a field. There will be plenty of goats' milk for your food, for your family's food, and for the nourishment of your servant girls.”
“Pay careful attention to the condition of your flocks, set your mind on your herds, for riches do not last forever, nor does a crown last from generation to generation. When the hay is removed and new grass appears, and the grass from the hills is gathered in, the lambs will be for your clothing, and the goats will be for the price of a field. And there will be enough goat’s milk for your food, for the food of your household, and for the sustenance of your servant girls.”
“Be diligent to know the countenance of thy cattle, and consider thy own flocks: For thou shalt not always have power: but a crown shall be given to generation and generation. The meadows are open, and the green herbs have appeared, and the hay is gathered out of the mountains. Lambs are for thy clothing: and kids for the price of the field. Let the milk of the goats be enough for thy food, and for the necessities of thy house, and for maintenance for thy handmaids. ”
“Take care to have knowledge about the condition of your flocks, looking well after your herds; For wealth is not for ever, and money does not go on for all generations. The grass comes up and the young grass is seen, and the mountain plants are got in. The lambs are for your clothing, and the he-goats make the value of a field: There will be goats' milk enough for your food, and for the support of your servant-girls.”
“Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds. ”
Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.
As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.
Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
