“Wealth adds many friends, but the poor is separated from his friend. A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who pours out lies shall not go free. Many will entreat the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts. All the relatives of the poor shun him: how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with pleas, but they are gone. He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good. A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who utters lies shall perish. Delicate living is not appropriate for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes. The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense. The king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass. A foolish son is the calamity of his father. A wife's quarrels are a continual dripping. House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Yahweh. Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger. He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die. He who has pity on the poor lends to Yahweh; he will reward him. Discipline your son, for there is hope; don't be a willing party to his death. A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again. Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end. There are many plans in a man's heart, but Yahweh's counsel will prevail. That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness. A poor man is better than a liar. The fear of Yahweh leads to life, then contentment; he rests and will not be touched by trouble. The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not so much as bring it to his mouth again. Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge. He who robs his father and drives away his mother, is a son who causes shame and brings reproach. If you stop listening to instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge. A corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity. Penalties are prepared for scoffers, and beatings for the backs of fools.”

“Wealth adds many friends, but a poor person is separated from his friend. A false witness will not go unpunished, and the one who spouts out lies will not escape punishment. Many people entreat the favor of a generous person, and everyone is the friend of the person who gives gifts. All the relatives of a poor person hate him; how much more do his friends avoid him– one who chases words, which are nothing. The one who acquires understanding loves himself; the one who preserves understanding will prosper. A false witness will not go unpunished, and the one who spouts out lies will perish. Luxury is not appropriate for a fool; how much less for a servant to rule over princes! A person’s wisdom has made him slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense. A king’s wrath is like the roar of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass. A foolish child is the ruin of his father, and a contentious wife is like a constant dripping. A house and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the LORD. Laziness brings on a deep sleep, and the idle person will go hungry. The one who obeys commandments guards his life; the one who despises his ways will die. The one who is gracious to the poor lends to the LORD, and the LORD will repay him for his good deed. Discipline your child, for there is hope, but do not set your heart on causing his death. A person with great anger bears the penalty, but if you deliver him from it once, you will have to do it again. Listen to advice and receive discipline, that you may become wise by the end of your life. There are many plans in a person’s mind, but it is the counsel of the LORD which will stand. What is desirable for a person is to show loyal love, and a poor person is better than a liar. Fearing the LORD leads to life, and one who does so will live satisfied; he will not be afflicted by calamity. The sluggard has plunged his hand into the dish, and he will not even bring it back to his mouth! Flog a scorner, and as a result the simpleton will learn prudence; correct a discerning person, and as a result he will understand knowledge. The one who robs his father and chases away his mother is a son who brings shame and disgrace. If you stop listening to instruction, my child, you will stray from the words of knowledge. A crooked witness scorns justice, and the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity. Penalties have been prepared for scorners, and floggings for the backs of fools.”

“Riches make many friends: but from the poor man, even they whom he had, depart. A false witness shall not be unpunished: and he that speaketh lies, shall not escape. Many honour the person of him that is mighty, and are friends of him that giveth gifts. The brethren of the poor man hate him: moreover also his friends have departed far from him. He that followeth after words only, shall have nothing. But he that possesseth a mind, loveth his own soul, and he that keepeth prudence, shall find good things. A false witness shall not be unpunished: and he that speaketh lies, shall perish. Delicacies are not seemly for a fool: nor for a servant to have rule over princes. The learning of a man is known by patience: and his glory is to pass over wrongs. As the roaring of a lion, so also is the anger of a king: and his cheerfulness as the dew upon the grass. A foolish son is the grief of his father: and a wrangling wife is like a roof continually dropping through. House and riches are given by parents: but a prudent wife is properly from the Lord. Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep, and an idle soul shall suffer hunger. He that keepeth the commandment, keepeth his own soul: but he that neglecteth his own way, shall die. He that hath mercy on the poor, lendeth to the Lord: and he will repay him. Chastise thy son, despair not: but to the killing of him set not thy soul. He that is impatient, shall suffer damage: and when he shall take away, he shall add another thing. Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayst be wise in thy latter end. There are many thoughts in the heart of a man: but the will of the Lord shall stand firm. A needy man is merciful: and better is the poor than the lying man. The fear of the Lord is unto life: and he shall abide in the fulness without being visited with evil. The slothful hideth his hand under his armpit, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth. The wicked man being scourged, the fool shall be wiser: but if thou rebuke a wise man, he will understand discipline. He that afflicteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is infamous and unhappy. Cease not, O my son, to hear instruction, and be not ignorant of the words of knowledge. An unjust witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity. Judgments are prepared for scorners: and striking hammers for the bodies of fools. ”

“Wealth makes a great number of friends; but the poor man is parted from his friend. A false witness will not go without punishment, and the breather out of deceit will not go free. Great numbers will make attempts to get the approval of a ruler: and every man is the special friend of him who has something to give. All the brothers of the poor man are against him: how much more do his friends go far from him! ... He who gets wisdom has love for his soul: he who keeps good sense will get what is truly good. A false witness will not go without punishment, and the breather out of deceit will be cut off. Material comfort is not good for the foolish; much less for a servant to be put over rulers. A man's good sense makes him slow to wrath, and the overlooking of wrongdoing is his glory. The king's wrath is like the loud cry of a lion, but his approval is like dew on the grass. A foolish son is the destruction of his father; and the bitter arguments of a wife are like drops of rain falling without end. House and wealth are a heritage from fathers, but a wife with good sense is from the Lord. Hate of work sends deep sleep on a man: and he who has no industry will go without food. He who keeps the law keeps his soul; but death will be the fate of him who takes no note of the word. He who has pity on the poor gives to the Lord, and the Lord will give him his reward. Give your son training while there is hope; let not your heart be purposing his death. A man of great wrath will have to take his punishment: for if you get him out of trouble you will have to do it again. Let your ear be open to suggestion and take teaching, so that at the end you may be wise. A man's heart may be full of designs, but the purpose of the Lord is unchanging. The ornament of a man is his mercy, and a poor man is better than one who is false. The fear of the Lord gives life: and he who has it will have need of nothing; no evil will come his way. The hater of work puts his hand deep into the basin, and will not even take it to his mouth again. When blows overtake the man of pride, the simple will get sense; say sharp words to the wise, and knowledge will be made clear to him. He who is violent to his father, driving away his mother, is a son causing shame and a bad name. A son who no longer gives attention to teaching is turned away from the words of knowledge. A good-for-nothing witness makes sport of the judge's decision: and the mouth of evil-doers sends out evil like a stream. Rods are being made ready for the man of pride, and blows for the back of the foolish.”
