King James Version
And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord.
Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.
But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
And do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify both yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day.
And purify all your raiment, and all that is made of skins, and all work of goats’ hair, and all things made of wood.
And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord commanded Moses;
Only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.
And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye shall come into the camp.
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the congregation:
And divide the prey into two parts; between them that took the war upon them, who went out to battle, and between all the congregation:
And levy a tribute unto the Lord of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the beeves, and of the asses, and of the sheep:
Take it of their half, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for an heave offering of the Lord.
And of the children of Israel’s half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the beeves, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord.
And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Moses.
And the booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep,
And threescore and twelve thousand beeves,
And threescore and one thousand asses,
And thirty and two thousand persons in all, of women that had not known man by lying with him.
And the half, which was the portion of them that went out to war, was in number three hundred thousand and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred sheep:
And the Lord’s tribute of the sheep was six hundred and threescore and fifteen.
And the beeves were thirty and six thousand; of which the Lord’s tribute was threescore and twelve.
And the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred; of which the Lord’s tribute was threescore and one.
And the persons were sixteen thousand; of which the Lord’s tribute was thirty and two persons.
And Moses gave the tribute, which was the Lord’s heave offering, unto Eleazar the priest, as the Lord commanded Moses.
And of the children of Israel’s half, which Moses divided from the men that warred,
(Now the half that pertained unto the congregation was three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred sheep,
And thirty and six thousand beeves,
And thirty thousand asses and five hundred,
And sixteen thousand persons;)
Even of the children of Israel’s half, Moses took one portion of fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Levites, which kept the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord; as the Lord commanded Moses.
And the officers which were over thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, came near unto Moses:
And they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war which are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us.
We have therefore brought an oblation for the Lord, what every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our souls before the Lord.
And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, even all wrought jewels.
And all the gold of the offering that they offered up to the Lord, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.
(For the men of war had taken spoil, every man for himself.)
And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, for a memorial for the children of Israel before the Lord.

Eleazar the priest said to the men of war who went to the battle, "This is the statute of the law which Yahweh has commanded Moses: however the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead, everything that may withstand the fire, you shall make to go through the fire, and it shall be clean; nevertheless it shall be purified with the water for impurity: and all that doesn't withstand the fire you shall make to go through the water. Moses and Eleazar the priest did as Yahweh commanded Moses. Now the prey, over and above the booty which the men of war took, was six hundred seventy-five thousand sheep, and seventy-two thousand head of cattle, and sixty-one thousand donkeys, and thirty-two thousand persons in all, of the women who had not known man by lying with him. The half, which was the portion of those who went out to war, was in number three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep: and Yahweh's tribute of the sheep was six hundred seventy-five. The cattle were thirty-six thousand; of which Yahweh's tribute was seventy-two. The donkeys were thirty thousand five hundred; of which Yahweh's tribute was sixty-one. The persons were sixteen thousand; of whom Yahweh's tribute was thirty-two persons. Moses gave the tribute, which was Yahweh's wave offering, to Eleazar the priest, as Yahweh commanded Moses. Of the children of Israel's half, which Moses divided off from the men who warred (now the congregation's half was three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep, and thirty-six thousand head of cattle, and thirty thousand five hundred donkeys, and sixteen thousand persons), even of the children of Israel's half, Moses took one drawn out of every fifty, both of man and of animal, and gave them to the Levites, who performed the duty of the tabernacle of Yahweh; as Yahweh commanded Moses. ([For] the men of war had taken booty, every man for himself.) Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the Tent of Meeting, for a memorial for the children of Israel before Yahweh.”
“Moses said to them,“Have you allowed all the women to live? Look, these people through the counsel of Balaam caused the Israelites to act treacherously against the LORD in the matter of Peor– which resulted in the plague among the community of the LORD! Now therefore kill every boy, and kill every woman who has been intimate with a man in bed. But all the young women who have not experienced a man’s bed will be yours. Purification After Battle“Any of you who has killed anyone or touched any of the dead, remain outside the camp for seven days; purify yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day. You must purify each garment and everything that is made of skin, everything made of goat’s hair, and everything made of wood.” Then Eleazar the priest said to the men of war who had gone into the battle,“This is the ordinance of the law that the LORD commanded Moses: ‘Only the gold, the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead, everything that may stand the fire, you are to pass through the fire, and it will be ceremonially clean, but it must still be purified with the water of purification. Anything that cannot withstand the fire you must pass through the water. You must wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you will be ceremonially clean, and afterward you may enter the camp.’” The Distribution of Spoils Then the LORD spoke to Moses: “You and Eleazar the priest, and all the family leaders of the community, take the sum of the plunder that was captured, both people and animals. Divide the plunder into two parts, one for those who took part in the war– who went out to battle– and the other for all the community. “You must exact a tribute for the LORD from the fighting men who went out to battle: one life out of five hundred, from the people, the cattle, and from the donkeys and the sheep. You are to take it from their half-share and give it to Eleazar the priest for a raised offering to the LORD. From the Israelites’ half-share you are to take one portion out of fifty of the people, the cattle, the donkeys, and the sheep– from every kind of animal– and you are to give them to the Levites, who are responsible for the care of the LORD’s tabernacle.” So Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses. The spoil that remained of the plunder which the fighting men had gathered was 675,000 sheep, 72,000 cattle, 61,000 donkeys, and 32,000 young womenwho had not experienced a man’s bed. The half-portion of those who went to war numbered 337,500 sheep; the LORD’s tribute from the sheep was 675. The cattle numbered 36,000; the LORD’s tribute was 72. The donkeys were 30,500, of which the LORD’s tribute was 61. The people were 16,000, of which the LORD’s tribute was 32 people. So Moses gave the tribute, which was the LORD’s raised offering, to Eleazar the priest, as the LORD commanded Moses. From the Israelites’ half-share that Moses had separated from the fighting men, there were 337,500 sheep from the portion belonging to the community, 36,000 cattle, 30,500 donkeys, and 16,000 people. From the Israelites’ share Moses took one of every fifty people and animals and gave them to the Levites who were responsible for the care of the LORD’s tabernacle, just as the LORD commanded Moses. Then the officers who were over the thousands of the army, the commanders over thousands and the commanders over hundreds, approached Moses and said to him,“Your servants have taken a count of the men who were in the battle, who were under our authority, and not one is missing. So we have brought as an offering for the LORD what each man found: gold ornaments, armlets, bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and necklaces, to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD.” Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold from them, all of it in the form of ornaments. All the gold of the offering they offered up to the LORD from the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds weighed 16,750 shekels. Each soldier had taken plunder for himself. So Moses and Eleazar the priest received the gold from the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds and brought it into the tent of meeting as a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD.”
“Said: Why have you saved the women? Are not these they, that deceived the children of Israel by the counsel of Balaam, and made you transgress against the Lord by the sin of Phogor, for which also the people was punished? Therefore kill all that are of the male sex, even of the children: and put to death the women, that have carnally known men. But the girls, and all the women that are virgins save for yourselves: And stay without the camp seven days. He that hath killed a man, or touched one that is killed, shall be purified the third day and the seventh day. And of all the spoil, every garment, or vessel, or any thing made for use, of the skins, or hair of goats, or of wood, shall be purified. Eleazar also the priest spoke to the men of the army, that had fought, in this manner: This is the ordinance of the law, which the Lord hath commanded Moses: Gold, and silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, And all that may pass through the fire, shall be purified by fire, but whatsoever cannot abide the fire, shall be sanctified with the water of expiation: And you shall wash your garments the seventh day, and being purified, you shall afterwards enter into the camp. And the Lord said to Moses: Take the sum of the things that were taken both of man and beast, thou and Eleazar the priest and the princes of the multitude: And thou shalt divide the spoil equally, between them that fought and went out to the war, and between the rest of the multitude. And thou shalt separate a portion to the Lord from them that fought and were in the battle, one soul of five hundred as well of persons as of oxen and asses and sheep. And thou shalt give it to Eleazar the priest, because they are the firstfruits of the Lord. Out of the moiety also of the children of Israel thou shalt take the fiftieth head of persons, and of oxen, and asses, and sheep, and of all beasts, and thou shalt give them to the Levites that watch in the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord. And Moses and Eleazar did as the Lord had commanded. And the spoil which the army had taken, was six hundred seventy-five thousand sheep, Seventy-two thousand oxen, Sixty-one thousand asses: And thirty-two thousand persons of the female sex, that had not known men. And one half was given to them that had been in the battle, to wit, three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep: Out of which, for the portion of the Lord, were reckoned six hundred seventy five sheep. And out of the thirty-six thousand oxen, seventy-two oxen: Out of the thirty thousand five hundred asses, sixty-one asses: Out of the sixteen thousand persons, there fell to the portion of the Lord, thirty-two souls. And Moses delivered the number of the firstfruits of the Lord to Eleazar the priest, as had been commanded him, Out of the half of the children of Israel, which he had separated for them that had been in the battle. But out of the half that fell to the rest of the multitude, that is to say, out of the three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep, And out of the thirty-six thousand oxen, And out of the thirty thousand five hundred asses, And out of the sixteen thousand persons, Moses took the fiftieth head, and gave it to the Levites that watched in the tabernacle of the Lord, as the Lord had commanded. And when the commanders of the army, and the tribunes and centurions were come to Moses, they said: We thy servants have reckoned up the number of the fighting men, whom we had under our hand, and not so much as one was wanting. Therefore we offer as gifts to the Lord what gold every one of us could find in the booty, in garters and tablets, rings and bracelets, and chains, that thou mayst pray to the Lord for us. And Moses and Eleazar the priest received all the gold in divers kinds, In weight sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty sicles, from the tribunes and from the centurions. For that which every one had taken in the booty was his own. And that which was received they brought into the tabernacle of the testimony, for a memorial of the children of Israel before the Lord. ”
“And Moses said to them, Why have you kept all the women safe? It was these who, moved by Balaam, were the cause of Israel's sin against the Lord in the question of Peor, because of which disease came on the people of the Lord. So now put every male child to death, and every woman who has had sex relations with a man. But all the female children who have had no sex relations with men, you may keep for yourselves. You yourselves will have to keep outside the tent-circle for seven days, anyone of you who has put any person to death or come near a dead body; and on the third day and on the seventh day make yourselves and your prisoners clean. And every bit of clothing, and anything made of leather or goats' hair or wood, you are to make clean. Then Eleazar the priest said to the men of war who had been to the fight, This is the rule of the law which the Lord has given to Moses: But gold and silver and brass and iron and tin and lead, And anything which may be heated, is to go through the fire and be made clean; but in addition it is to be put in the water of cleaning: and anything which may not go through the fire is to be put in the water. And on the seventh day, after washing your clothing, you will be clean, and then you may come into the tent-circle. And the Lord said to Moses, Get an account of everything which was taken in the war, of man and of beast, you and Eleazar the priest and the heads of families of the people: And let division be made of it into two parts, one for the men of war who went out to the fight, and one for all the people: And from the men of war who went out let there be offered to the Lord one out of every five hundred, from the persons, and from the oxen and asses and sheep: Take this from their part and give it to Eleazar the priest as an offering to be lifted up to the Lord. And from the part given to the children of Israel, take one out of every fifty, from the persons, and from the oxen and asses and sheep, and give it to the Levites who have the care of the House of the Lord. So Eleazar and Moses did as the Lord had given orders to Moses. Now the beasts taken, in addition to what the fighting-men took for themselves, were six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep, And seventy-two thousand oxen, And sixty-one thousand asses; And thirty-two thousand persons, that is, women who had never had sex relations with a man. And the half given as their part to the men who went to the war, was three hundred and thirty-seven thousand, five hundred sheep, Of which the Lord's part was six hundred and seventy-five. The number of oxen was thirty-six thousand, of which the Lord's part was seventy-two; The number of asses was thirty thousand, five hundred, of which the Lord's part was sixty-one. And the number of persons was sixteen thousand, of which the Lord's part was thirty-two persons. And Moses gave the Lord's part, lifted up as an offering, to Eleazar the priest, as the Lord had given orders to Moses. And from the half given to the children of Israel, which Moses had kept separate from that given to the fighting-men, (Now the people's half was three hundred and thirty-seven thousand, five hundred sheep, And thirty-six thousand oxen, And thirty thousand, five hundred asses, And sixteen thousand persons;) Even from the children of Israel's half, Moses took one out of every fifty, men and beasts, and gave them to the Levites who had the care of the House of the Lord; as the Lord gave orders to Moses. Then the men in authority over the thousands of the army, the captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, came to Moses, And said to him, Your servants have taken note of the number of all the fighting-men under our orders, and every one is present; And we have here an offering for the Lord from what every man took in the war, ornaments of gold, leg-chains and arm-rings, finger-rings, ear-rings, and neck-ornaments, to make our souls free from sin before the Lord. So Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold from them, even all the worked ornaments. And the gold which the captains of thousands and captains of hundreds gave, as an offering to be lifted up before the Lord, came to sixteen thousand, seven hundred and fifty shekels. (For every man of the army had taken goods for himself in the war.) Then Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold given by the captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, and took it into the Tent of meeting, to be a sign in memory of the children of Israel before the Lord.”
“And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive? And the beeves were thirty and six thousand; of which the Lord’s tribute was threescore and twelve. And the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred; of which the Lord’s tribute was threescore and one. And the persons were sixteen thousand; of which the Lord’s tribute was thirty and two persons. And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.
And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.
And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.
And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
