— Genesis 24:21, Catholic Public Domain Version
“And the man wondering at her held his peace, to wit whether the Lord had made his journey prosperous or not.”
“And the man looked stedfastly on her, holding his peace, to know whether Jehovah had made his journey prosperous or not. ”
“The man looked steadfastly at her, remaining silent, to know whether Yahweh had made his journey prosperous or not.”
“Silently the man watched her with interest to determine if the LORD had made his journey successful or not.”
“But he musing, beheld her with silence, desirous to know whether the Lord had made his journey prosperous or not.”
“And the man, looking at her, said nothing, waiting to see if the Lord had given his journey a good outcome.”
“And the man wondering at her held his peace, to wit whether the Lord had made his journey prosperous or not.”
And she responded, “Drink, my lord.” And she quickly brought down the pitcher on her arm, and she gave him a drink.
And after he drank, she added, “In fact, I will draw water for your camels also, until they all drink.”
And pouring out the pitcher into the troughs, she ran back to the well to draw water; and having drawn, she gave it to all the camels.
But he was contemplating her silently, wanting to know whether the Lord had caused his journey to prosper or not
Then, after the camels drank, the man took out gold earrings, weighing two shekels, and the same number of bracelets, ten shekels in weight.
And he said to her: “Whose daughter are you? Tell me, is there any place in your father’s house to lodge?”
She responded, “I am the daughter of Bethuel, the son of Milcah, to whom she gave birth for Nahor.”
