— Exodus 5:13, American Standard Version
“And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.”
“The taskmasters were urgent saying, "Fulfill your work quota daily, as when there was straw!"”
“The slave masters were pressuring them, saying,“Complete your work for each day, just like when there was straw!””
“And the overseers of the works pressed them, saying: Fulfil your work every day, as before ye were wont to do, when straw was given you.”
“And the overseers went on driving them and saying, Do your full day's work as before when there were dry stems for you.”
“And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.”
And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.
Go yourselves, get you straw where ye can find it: for nought of your work shall be diminished.
So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw.
And the taskmasters were urgent saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.
And the officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task both yesterday and to-day, in making brick as heretofore?
Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?
There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.
