"So the people contended with Moses, and they said,“Give us water to drink!” Moses said to them,“Why do you contend with me? Why do you test the LORD?”"

“Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the Lord?”
“Wherefore the people strove with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why strive ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt Jehovah? ”
“Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said, "Give us water to drink." Moses said to them, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?"”
“And they chode with Moses, and said: Give us water, that we may drink. And Moses answered them: Why chide you with me? Wherefore do you tempt the Lord?”
“So the people were angry with Moses, and said, Give us water for drinking. And Moses said, Why are you angry with me? and why do you put God to the test?”

Water at Massa and Meribah The whole community of the Israelites traveled on their journey from the wilderness of Sin according to the LORD’s instruction, and they pitched camp in Rephidim. Now there was no water for the people to drink.
So the people contended with Moses, and they said,“Give us water to drink!” Moses said to them,“Why do you contend with me? Why do you test the LORD?”
But the people were very thirsty there for water, and they murmured against Moses and said,“Why in the world did you bring us up from Egypt– to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?”
Then Moses cried out to the LORD,“What will I do with this people?– a little more and they will stone me!”
The LORD said to Moses,“Go over before the people; take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand your staff with which you struck the Nile and go.
