“And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore shall he be slain? what hath he done?”
“And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore should he be put to death? what hath he done? ”
“Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, "Why should he be put to death? What has he done?"”
“Jonathan responded to his father Saul,“Why should he be put to death? What has he done?””
“And Jonathan answering Saul, his father, said: Why shall he die? What hath he done?”
“And Jonathan, answering his father Saul, said to him, Why is he to be put to death? What has he done?”
“And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore shall he be slain? what hath he done?”
And he said, Let me go, I pray you; for our family has a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he has commanded me to be there: and now, if I have found favor in your eyes, let me get away, I pray you, and see my brothers. Therefore he comes not to the king’s table.
Then Saul’s anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, You son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own confusion, and to the confusion of your mother’s nakedness?
For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the ground, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom. Why now send and fetch him to me, for he shall surely die.
And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, Why shall he be slain? what has he done?
And Saul cast a javelin at him to smite him: whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to slay David.
So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no meat the second day of the month: for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame. ¶
And it came to pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad with him.
