"God chose what is low and despised in the world, what is regarded as nothing, to set aside what is regarded as something,"
— 1 Corinthians 1:28, NET Bible
“And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:”
“and the base things of the world, and the things that are despised, did God choose, yea and the things that are not, that he might bring to nought the things that are: ”
“and God chose the lowly things of the world, and the things that are despised, and the things that are not, that he might bring to nothing the things that are:”
“And the base things of the world and the things that are contemptible, hath God chosen: and things that are not, that he might bring to nought things that are:”
“And the low things of the world, and the things without honour, did God make selection of, yes, even the things which are not, so that he might make as nothing the things which are:”
“And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:”
For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
Think about the circumstances of your call, brothers and sisters. Not many were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were born to a privileged position.
But God chose what the world thinks foolish to shame the wise, and God chose what the world thinks weak to shame the strong.
God chose what is low and despised in the world, what is regarded as nothing, to set aside what is regarded as something,
so that no one can boast in his presence.
He is the reason you have a relationship with Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption,
so that, as it is written,“Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
