“And David with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to their ordering in their service. And there were more chief men found of the sons of Eleazar than of the sons of Ithamar; and thus were they divided: of the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen, heads of fathers’ houses; and of the sons of Ithamar, according to their fathers’ houses, eight. Thus were they divided by lot, one sort with another; for there were princes of the sanctuary, and princes of God, both of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar. And Shemaiah the son of Nethanel the scribe, who was of the Levites, wrote them in the presence of the king, and the princes, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the priests and of the Levites; one fathers’ house being taken for Eleazar, and one taken for Ithamar. Now the first lot came forth to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah, the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim, the fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin, the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah, the ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shecaniah, the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim, the thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab, the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer, the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Happizzez, the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezkel, the one and twentieth to Jachin, the two and twentieth to Gamul, the three and twentieth to Delaiah, the four and twentieth to Maaziah. This was the ordering of them in their service, to come into the house of Jehovah according to the ordinance given unto them by Aaron their father, as Jehovah, the God of Israel, had commanded him. And of the rest of the sons of Levi: of the sons of Amram, Shubael; of the sons of Shubael, Jehdeiah. Of Rehabiah: of the sons of Rehabiah, Isshiah the chief. Of the Izharites, Shelomoth; of the sons of Shelomoth, Jahath. And the sonsof Hebron: Jeriahthe chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth. The sons of Uzziel, Micah; of the sons of Micah, Shamir. The brother of Micah, Isshiah; of the sons of Isshiah, Zechariah. The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi; the sons of Jaaziah: Beno. The sons of Merari: of Jaaziah, Beno, and Shoham, and Zaccur, and Ibri. Of Mahli: Eleazar, who had no sons. Of Kish; the sons of Kish: Jerahmeel. And the sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites after their fathers’ houses. These likewise cast lots even as their brethren the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the priests and of the Levites; the fathers’ houses of the chief even as those of his younger brother. ”

“David, Zadok(a descendant of Eleazar), and Ahimelech(a descendant of Ithamar) divided them into groups to carry out their assigned responsibilities. The descendants of Eleazar had more leaders than the descendants of Ithamar, so they divided them up accordingly; the descendants of Eleazar had sixteen leaders, while the descendants of Ithamar had eight. They divided them by lots, for there were officials of the holy place and officials designated by God among the descendants of both Eleazar and Ithamar. The scribe Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a Levite, wrote down their names before the king, the officials, Zadok the priest, Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the leaders of the priestly and Levite families. One family was drawn by lot from Eleazar, and then the next from Ithamar. The first lot went to Jehoiarib,the second to Jedaiah, the third to Harim,the fourth to Seorim, the fifth to Malkijah,the sixth to Mijamin, the seventh to Hakkoz,the eighth to Abijah, the ninth to Jeshua,the tenth to Shecaniah, the eleventh to Eliashib,the twelfth to Jakim, the thirteenth to Huppah,the fourteenth to Jeshebeab, the fifteenth to Bilgah,the sixteenth to Immer, the seventeenth to Hezir,the eighteenth to Happizzez, the nineteenth to Pethahiah,the twentieth to Jehezkel, the twenty-first to Jakin,the twenty-second to Gamul, the twenty-third to Delaiah,the twenty-fourth to Maaziah. This was the order in which they carried out their assigned responsibilities when they entered the LORD’s temple, according to the regulations given them by their ancestor Aaron, just as the LORD God of Israel had instructed him. Remaining Levites The rest of the Levites included: Shubael from the sons of Amram,Jehdeiah from the sons of Shubael, the firstborn Isshiah from Rehabiah and the sons of Rehabiah, Shelomoth from the Izharites,Jahath from the sons of Shelomoth. The sons of Hebron: Jeriah, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. The son of Uzziel:Micah;Shamir from the sons of Micah. The brother of Micah:Isshiah.Zechariah from the sons of Isshiah. The sons of Merari:Mahli and Mushi.The son of Jaaziah:Beno. The sons of Merari, from Jaaziah:Beno, Shoham, Zaccur, and Ibri. From Mahli:Eleazar, who had no sons. From Kish:Jerahmeel. The sons of Mushi:Mahli, Eder, and Jerimoth.These were the Levites, listed by their families. Just like their relatives, the descendants of Aaron, they also cast lots before King David, Zadok, Ahimelech, the leaders of families, the priests, and the Levites. The families of the oldest son cast lots along with those of the youngest.”

And there were found many more of the sons of Eleazar among the principal men, than of the sons of Ithamar. And he divided them so, that there were of the sons of Eleazar, sixteen chief men by their families: and of the sons of Ithamar eight by their families and houses. And he divided both the families one with the other by lot: for there were princes of the sanctuary, and princes of God, both of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar. And Semeias the son of Nathanael the scribe a Levite, wrote them down before the king and the princes, and Sadoc the priest, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and the princes also of the priestly and Levitical families: one house, which was over the rest, of Eleazar: and another house, which had the rest under it, of Ithamar. Now the first lot came forth to Joiarib, the second to Jedei, The third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim, The fifth to Melchia, the sixth to Maiman, The seventh to Accos, the eighth to Abia, The ninth to Jesua, the tenth to Sechenia, The eleventh to Eliasib, the twelfth to Jacim, The thirteenth to Hoppha, the fourteenth to Isbaab, The fifteenth to Belga, the sixteenth to Emmer, The seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Aphses, The nineteenth to Pheteia, the twentieth to Hezechiel, The one and twentieth to Jachin, the two and twentieth to Gamul, The three and twentieth to Dalaiau, the four and twentieth to Maaziau. These are their courses according to their ministries, to come into the house of the Lord, and according to their manner under the hand of Aaron their father: as the Lord the God of Israel had commanded. Now of the rest of the sons of Levi, there was of the sons of Amram, Subael: and of the sons of Subael, Jehedeia. Also of the sons of Rohobia the chief Jesias. And the son of Isaar Salemoth, and the son of Salemoth Jahath: And his son Jeriau the first, Amarias the second, Jahaziel the third, Jecmaan the fourth. The son of Oziel, Micha: the son of Micha, Samir. The brother of Micha, Jesia: and the son of Jesia, Zacharias. The sons of Merari: Moholi and Musi: the son of Oziau: Benno. The son also of Merari Oziau, and Soam, and Zacchur, and Hebri. And the son of Moholi: Eleazar, who had no sons. And the son of Cis, Jeramael. The sons of Musi: Moholi, Eder, and Jerimoth. These are the sons of Levi according to the houses of their families. And they also cast lots over against their brethren the sons of Aaron before David the king, and Sadoc, and Ahimelech, and the princes of the priestly and Levitical families, both the elder and the younger. The lot divided all equally. ”

And there were more chiefs among the sons of Eleazar than among the sons of Ithamar; and this is how they were grouped: of the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen, all heads of families; and of the sons of Ithamar, heads of families, there were eight. So they were put into groups, by the Lord's decision, one with another; for there were rulers of the holy place and rulers of the house of God among the sons of Eleazar and the sons of Ithamar. And Shemaiah, the son of Nethanel the scribe, who was a Levite, put down their names in writing, the king being present with the rulers, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech, the son of Abiathar, and the heads of families of the priests and the Levites; one family being taken for Eleazar and then one for Ithamar, and so on. Of the Izharites, Shelomoth; of the sons of Shelomoth, Jahath. And the sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth.
