Esther tells how a Jewish orphan becomes queen of Persia and risks her life to save her people from genocide. Though God's name is never mentioned, his unseen providence is woven through every reversal — and the Jewish festival of Purim still celebrates the deliverance.
“For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time… and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
“Go, gather together all the Jews… and fast ye for me… I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.”
