Deuteronomy is Moses' final sermons to Israel before they enter the Promised Land — a renewed call to love and obey the LORD. It re-states the Law, rehearses Israel's history, and lays before the people blessing for obedience and curse for rebellion.
Largely framed as Moses' farewell speeches; the closing chapter narrating his death was likely added by Joshua or a later editor.
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.”
“And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”
“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life.”
“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”
