"perhaps they would have swallowed us alive. When their fury was enraged against us, "
— Psalms 123:3, Catholic Public Domain Version
“Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.”
“Have mercy upon us, O Jehovah, have mercy upon us; For we are exceedingly filled with contempt. ”
“Have mercy on us, Yahweh, have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt.”
“Show us favor, O LORD, show us favor! For we have had our fill of humiliation, and then some.”
“Perhaps they had swallowed us up alive. When their fury was enkindled against us,”
“Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us: for all men are looking down on us.”
“Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.”
A Canticle in steps. If the Lord had not been with us, let Israel now say it:
if the Lord had not been with us, when men rose up against us,
perhaps they would have swallowed us alive. When their fury was enraged against us,
perhaps the waters would have engulfed us.
Our soul has passed through a torrent. Perhaps, our soul had even passed through intolerable water.
Blessed is the Lord, who has not given us into the harm of their teeth.
